ENGAGEMENT

Since its formation in 2014, the Farm Safety Foundation has been working closely with the National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs, Wales YFC, SAYFC and the Young Farmers’ Clubs of Ulster, the Health & Safety Executive, HSENI and other key industry stakeholders across the UK and beyond to engage and inspire young farmers aged between 16 and 40 to challenge and change their attitudes and behaviours around risk-taking and poor mental health that continue to affect the industry.

This allows us to engage directly with 36,000 members of the YFC network across the UK via our ‘Farm Safe’ and ‘Minding Your Head’  training sessions, support at national and county shows, eNewsletters and on social media as well as face to face at events and competitions days throughout the year.

Shows and Events

Every year, we prepare a schedule and plan our presence at key industry events and shows throughout the UK. You can’t miss our iconic giant yellow wellies and many people visit our stand year after year to discuss farm safety and mental health, find out how they can get involved and, of course, grab their exclusive yellow wellies goodies!

This year we will be at the following shows:
8-10 January Oxford Farming Conference
15-16 January LAMMA Show, NEC
14-17 May Balmoral Show, Northern Ireland
5-7 June Royal Cornwall Show
11-12 June Cereals, Nottingham
19-22 June Royal Highland Show, Scotland
8-11 July Great Yorkshire Show
21-24 July Royal Welsh Show

Campaigns

We are proud to own, manage and fund two national campaigns – Mind Your Head and Farm Safety Week.

According to the latest HSE fatal injuries in agriculture, forestry and fishing in GB report, 23 farm workers and 4 members of the public (including 2 children) lost their lives on farms in 2024/25 plus an additional 5 farm workers in Northern Ireland (HSENI). We can talk farm safety until the cows come home but unless farm workers accept the collective responsibility for making the industry take action to address this poor record, nothing will change.

Farmers listen to farmers so, in order for us to share our messages to a wider audience through the press and social media, we need people to share their experiences, their thoughts and what they are doing to improve the safety of their workers… If you have a story you would like to share with us or know someone that can help us, please get in touch. We would love to hear from you on Farm_Safety_Foundation@nfumutual.co.uk

The Foundation

The Foundation works closely with Young Farmers Clubs, HSE, the Farm Safety Partnerships and a range of farming organisations to help raise awareness of farm safety among young farmers, challenge and change their attitudes towards farming safely and reduce the toll of injuries and fatalities which bring heartbreak and misery to numerous families and rural communities every year.
